About Shavon Wilkins

Mixed media artist Shavon Wilkins grew up on Long Island, New York surrounded by a long line of proud African American visionaries. Her family encouraged her curiosity through nature, books, and various craftsmanship.  In 2015 she purchased some acrylic craft paints with the intention of painting a Bob Ross inspired landscape but instead began painting women. The infinite possibilities that art possesses encourages her to experiment and erase boundaries and create a new voice. She uses her original artwork to make her daydreams of mythical women multidimensional realities on canvas, incorporating texture with paint and elements like salt, clay, sand, gold flake, organic materials and found objects to build small worlds for her women to inhabit. These worlds will continue to expand as she continues to ask herself what more she can do with her art and expands further into the identities of the goddesses she creates.
