CHELSEA, Manhattan — A survey of 30 art museums across the country, including The Met and MoMA here in New York, found that only 8% of their exhibits were dedicated to black art.

Kiana Calder of the Bronx is trying to change that trend with the Unapologetic Art Expo, giving black artists a platform to expose their unique artworks to a new audience.

Calder is the creator and Host of the "Unapologetically Different Podcast."

The "Art Expo" was created to capture the essence of the complicated beauty, joy, and pain that is black culture.

Featured artist Shavon Wilkins showcases her freshly completed mixed media painting “Sanctuary” and discusses what the Unapologetic Art Expo means for her work.

The Unapologetic Art Expo ran Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Crossing Art Gallery in Chelsea.
